Your One Stop Shop - what's involved

A BER Assessor will call to calculate the new energy efficiency rating of your home. A BER certificate will be given to you in the handover file and will also be published on SEAI’s national BER register. This will demonstrate to you and any interested parties just how energy efficient your newly upgraded home is.

SEAI may desire to carry out a full inspection of your home. This will generally involve a separate visit from an SEAI inspector. SEAI inspectors want to make sure that the upgrades completed on your home meet SEAI’s high technical specifications and quality standards. If they identify any snags with the works carried out, our Project Manager will be informed and will arrange for the contractor to return to address these promptly.

A project manager, who will be appointed to oversee the works on your home, they will be your main point of contact. They will be in touch to make an appointment with you to schedule the works.

Our One Stop Shop Team are responsible for the design and installation of the energy efficiency upgrades in your home.

The Project Manager will keep you updated on any changes they may need to make to the recommendations, timelines, etc. They will agree these changes with you before works start to make sure you are happy with what is being proposed. If anything is not clear to you at this stage, feel free to contact the Project Manager to ask questions and discuss.

Your Project Manager and You.

The Project Manager will keep you informed of progress throughout the project. They are happy to answer your questions and discuss any issues or concerns you may have. It’s also good to inform the Project Manager of any requirements you might have that they should be aware of when working in your home, so they can let our team know about these before any work starts.

For the work to be done, quite a few visits to your home will be needed. The Project Manager will contact you and let you know what will be happening, and when. They will also let you know if there are delays or any changes in appointments, for whatever reason. All Kingdom Installation personnel should introduce themselves to you when they arrive on site and should have ID badges.

We know that having works done around the house can be quite stressful, so good communication between you and the Project Manager is important to help things run smoothly.

Contractors are not permitted to carry out separate, privately paid work on your home. Please do not request additional works for payment as it puts your contractor in an awkward position.

Before starting any upgrade works on your home, the Project Manager will fully explain all aspects of the project to you – what work they will be carrying out, how long they expect the work to take and when they intend to start.

On average, once the works begin on site the works take 4 – 20 weeks to complete, depending on the number and type of upgrades being carried out, with a possible lag for utility providers which may vary from property to property and area in which the property is located.

Once the programme of works has been finalised and you are clear on what is planned for your home, the works can start.

  • Disruption to your daily routine.
  • The Timelines involved.
  • Your Project Manager and You.

Disruption to your daily routine.

It is likely that a lot of work will be undertaken in your home.

In some cases, the level of work could be similar in scale to an extension being built on to a property.

Building work is messy and noisy.

Any disruptions should be kept to a minimum, but there will be some disturbance.

This means there may be changes to your daily routine during the works.
For example, access to your home may be affected by scaffolding; part of your garden may be inaccessible for a time, and/or there may be temporary disruption to your electricity, water, heating or gas supply (e.g. if the ESB need to disconnect temporarily to allow works to proceed).

There will also be quite a bit of noise as most of the upgrades will require some level of drilling, cutting and hammering.

The time needed to carry out the works will depend on the type and number of energy efficiency upgrades you will be having done. In general, the time taken to complete each type of upgrade is:

  • Several days for attic insulation or cavity wall insultation.
  • One to three months for external wall insulation depending on the weather.
  • One to three weeks for heating upgrades.
  • Six to twelve weeks for window and/or door replacements, from the time of placing the order for materials, to completion of the installation, depending on colour, design and availability.

Some upgrades can be started only when another upgrade has been completed.
For example, cavity wall insulation can only be done after any new windows or doors are installed. It’s good to bear this in mind as doing each upgrade one after another will inevitably take longer but it often can’t be avoided.
Further information on each energy efficiency upgrade can be found in the next section.

Other factors that may affect the planned timelines are:

  • Poor weather
  • Delays with ordered materials
  • Services requiring alterations by ESB Networks or Gas Networks Ireland.
  • Items that cannot be identified until works commence such as, defective or non-compliant electrics/plumbing.

****Rectification of defective or non-compliant items are outside the remit of the One Stop Shop and could incur further homeowner expense.****

It is possible there will be some delays or small hiccups along the way, but the Project Manager will keep you updated on any issues encountered, particularly if these are going to affect the timelines.

A large team is likely to be working on your home during the project, but the Project Manager will be your main point of contact and will project-manage all the agreed works. They will also arrange any appointments with you and ensure you get enough notice about any visits by any of our team.

When the works on your home are completed, the Project Manager will do a final quality review of the work with you including any relevant inductions and answer any final questions you may have.

On completion your Project Manager will give you a handover file containing important documents, such as certificates and/or manuals.
